Charlene Franklin – Helping others has such a profound impact, not only for the recipient but for the community as well.
While working with Southcentral Foundation in 2000 as a Graduate Intern I enrolled at Charter College for the Business Office Administration. I obtained my Media Arts Associates Degree from Haskell Indian Nations University. I have a Certification for the Business Office Specialist and Computer Technology, from Career College. I think learning new skills and obtaining knowledge helps a person to explore and build new strengths.
I had the opportunity to participate in Southcentral Foundation’s Graduate Intern Program. We helped to structure the RAISE Intern program for future Alaska Native and American Indian youth. After the program ended I began working in Public Relations. I really enjoyed event planning and fund raising for the community.
Over a seven-year period working in the Oil and Gas industry for Pioneer Natural Resources as the Senior Administrative Assistant. While there I was asked to join Accounting as the Lead Accounts Payable. As Lead Accounts Payable, I created a coding system for the Managers and Supervisors to quickly review the hundreds of Invoices for approval. Using the Digital Oilfield invoicing program, I was able to code and process over 500 invoices each month. I soon felt like a robot and wanted to get back to helping others in my community reach their goals.
While I was searching for a new avenue to help others and my community, I was approached by Matthew McWaters, the owner of LUCID. He asked if I would be interested in managing the Alaska division of LUCID. Enthusiastically, I said, “Yes!”
Working as the Business Manager for the Anchorage Office, has placed me into a position in which I can truly give back to my community and help Alaska business’ grow and succeed.
